The inability to see hand tools in dark areas can lead to tools being left behind in the aircraft, resulting in Foreign Object Damage or FOD. The Semco Glow-in-the-Dark (GID) Sealant Pick is able to be charged and recharged with a variety of light sources including but not limited to: LED, Ultra-Violet (and subsets thereof), sun light, incandescent light (including halogen), or fluorescent light. Once the charge has been exhausted, this tool simply requires additional exposure to a light source to re-energize. The duration of the glow is a function of the following: Length of time tool is exposed to the light source Type of light source tool is exposed to Intensity of aforementioned light source type Proximity of the tool to the light source
The Semco® Glow-in-the-Dark (GID) Sealant Pick is made from a resin that is orange in color to contrast the appearance of most aircraft substrates in ambient light which is typically a yellowish-green.
Semco Glow-in-the-Dark (GID) Sealant Picks are fabricated from a proprietary resin that glows in the dark to improve operators’ ability to see the object in poorly lit areas. The design is textured to improve the ability of the operators to grip the tool during usage.
